Message from the president

NHK International, Inc. was founded in 1980 as a non-profit corporation with the goal of promoting mutual international understanding and friendship.
Our main task is to produce international versions of NHK TV programs and distribute them to broadcasters in developing countries, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japan Foundation, among others.
Japan is often referred to as a country "without a face." To help the rest of the world come to a better appreciation of Japan, we believe it is very important that the ordinary, everyday TV programs that we enjoy at home are broadcast in other countries. This is not only limited to television. We have organized Video festivals in the Peoples' Republic of China over the past 18 years, that have attracted more than 1.22 million young viewers to a variety of NHK programs dealing with environmental issues and science technologies. They are now leaving their nests and entering society. We have organized video festivals in India, Brazil, Vietnam, Laos, Mongolia and the UAE, as well.
International cultural exchange is the ultimate form of security. I believe this because mutual understanding through diverse international cultural exchange provides the basis for true world peace.
We at NHK International promise, in the 21st century, that we will devote ourselves to introducing the real Japan of today and the inner thoughts and feelings of the Japanese people. We will also continue to supply educational TV programs to developing countries to help them nurture their human resources.
We look forward to your kind understanding and generous cooperation. Thank you very much.
Mamoru Morohoshi
President NHK International, Inc.
